West Coast Gear, Clutch, & Flywheel Services OC

Every shift and every mile takes its toll. So, a reliable clutch system, new or remanufactured, is a valuable safeguard against slipping into downtime that results in lost income. We carry an extensive inventory of new parts and components, from the smallest bushings to various heavy-duty SPEC clutches to precise flywheel resurfacing. Whether it’s something as simple as maintaining proper clutch repair adjustment lubricating your clutch components, or providing new or remanufactured clutch systems,

The clutch consists of several separate components:
  • A clutch Disk — the friction device that makes the connection between the engine and transmission
  • Flywheel — what gives the clutch disk a surface to hold onto
  • Pressure Plate — the part that holds the clutch disk to the flywheel
  • Throwout Bearing — which presses the levers on the pressure plate when you press the clutch pedal to release the clutch

How will you know when your truck requires clutch repair? If you see these signs, it may be time for clutch replacement, clutch repair, or other repair needs:

  • When you push your clutch pedal down to the floor, you should not hear any grinding sounds. If you do, there may be a clutch problem.
  • When you depress the clutch pedal, it should grab close to the top, and the take-off should be smooth. If it jerks or chatters, you may want to visit our shop for a clutch inspection.
  • As you sense an acrid smell, your clutch may be burning and need repair.

If your engine suddenly revs up when you’re already moving and speeding up, that may be another sign for a clutch replacement.
We use only new clutches, never rebuilt. We also resurface flywheels and inspect clutch fork and clutch shaft operation. Install a new pilot bearing and clutch brake, and adjust the clutch for proper maintenance on all clutch jobs. We also ensure the transmission input shaft is not worn out or twisted. If so, we will inform the customer before it is reassembled.

Does your clutch feel worn out? Does the pedal feel dead or “mushy”? Do you have difficulty shifting, or does your shifter not move freely? You may need a clutch adjustment if you answered yes to any of the previous questions. A clutch adjustment allows the clutch pedal to either a tighter or more giving feel when pushing up on the clutch. Adjusting the clutch to manufacture specifications will enable the vehicle to shift much more smoothly and give you the resistance your truck may require.
